iTunes 5 Installation Trouble

Question

I am trying to install iTunes 5 but the installer keeps telling me to quit iTunes even though iTunes is not running. What's going on?

Answer

It turns out the iTunes installer is rather simplistic in its check to make sure iTunes isn't running. It looks for anything containing "iTunes" instead of looking for an exact match. So if you have "SizzlingKeys4iTunes" running in the background, the installer thinks iTunes is running!

The workaround: Open up System Preferences and click on SizzlingKeys. Stop SizzlingKeys by clicking on the "Stop" button. Restart SizzlingKeys after installing iTunes.

Alternatively, open up Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities). Select "SizzlingKeys4iTunes" and click "Quit Process" to terminate SizzlingKeys.
